Rick
Latham, born February 20, 1967, died tragically Sunday morning, August
24, 2003 due to a motorcycle accident on Cherry Street in Springfield,
Mo. He was 36. Rick is survived by his wife, Lia; his daughters, Saylor,
age 8, and Lola, age 6; his mother and step-father, Margery and Leonard
West of Springfield, Mo.; his brother, Justin Latham of Scottsdale, Az;
two step-brothers, Stephen West of Arnold, Mo., and Kevin West of Kansas
City, Ks; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lynn and Judy Jones, Theodosia,
Mo.; his father, James Latham of Springfield, Mo.; and his step-mother,
Rosemary Scroggs of Monett, Mo. Rick's top priority in life was his family.
He and Lia were married June 10, 1994 and recently celebrated their ninth
anniversary. They shared passions for football, good food, their home,
music, unique art, photos, family and good friends, Rick's cat Elvis,
and mostly their daughters. Rick was an incredible dad to his two beautiful
girls, Saylor and Lola. He gave them lots of love and the precious gift
of spending a great deal of time cuddling with them. Together they enjoyed
wrestling, swimming, biking, playing video games, the girls' soccer games,
dance recitals, and much more. Friends describe Rick as "a loving
husband and father", "full of life", and "funny as
hell", "goal-oriented", "creative", and "one
of a kind". Rick moved to Springfield to attend SMSU after graduating
from Pierce City High School in 1985. After college Rick worked at Clary's
and La Mirabelle restaurants. Rick was a passionate Kansas Chiefs football
fan and an avid fantasy football player and league manager. Rick's love
of games and sportsmanship led to the establishment of his successful
entertainment business Meta Games on The Plaza with partner Allan Reid
in 1998. Rick
was rated 5th in the World as a professional Magic player. His participation
in tournaments earned him top strategic game honors such as Rogue Trader.
His gaming favorites included Dungeons and Dragons and the on-line Counter
Strike game. Rick Latham will be deeply missed in so many ways by so
many people; as husband, father, son, brother, partner, and friend. Memorial
services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in Gorman
Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.

Edna
Acuff, 86, of Monett, died at 1 p.m. May 12 at Cox Monett Hospital following
a sudden illness.Mrs. Acuff was born August 29, 1918, in McDowell,
the daughter of Joseph and Ida Haworth King. She was a retired school teacher,
having been employed
by the Pierce City R-2 school district for 32 years, retiring in 1985.She
married William Eugene Acuff, and he preceded her in death in August of
1952.Survivors include two sons, Austin Acuff of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Jimmy
Acuff of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.Services
will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, at the First United Methodist church in
Monett with Rev. Clif Crockett officiating. Burial will be
in Monett IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral
Home of Monett.

21, 2005. A Stotts City woman was struck and killed Monday at 7:18 p.m.
on Interstate 44 eight miles east of Joplin in Jasper County. The Missouri
State Highway Patrol issued the following report:Cheryl Smith, 39, was
killed when she was walking across the eastbound lane of I-44 and was struck
by an eastbound Ford driven by Johnnie
Ellis, 31, of Joplin. The body was taken to Knell Funeral Home in Carthage
and then to Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City. Cheryl L. (Walker) Smith,
39, a longtime resident of Pierce City, passed away the evening of Monday,
Dec. 19, 2005, from an auto-pedestrian accident. She was preceded in death
by a nephew, James Vaughn Meeks III, and a grandfather, William Lawrence
Walker. She is survived by daughter Ashley Lacey; son Justin Lacey; parents
Wilbur and Sally Walker, Pierce City; brothers and sisters, Cindy Farlett
and husband Bobby, Hampton, Ga., Larry Walker and wife Robin, Bois D'Arc,
Bill Walker, Springfield, Connie Meeks and husband James, Monett; grandmother
Mayme Walker, Springfield; close friend Darwin Wahlers, Stotts City; and
many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. today in Lakin
Funeral Home, Pierce City. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec.
23 in Pierce City Cemetery.

PIERCE CITY, Mo. — Don Murwin "Ted" Keebaugh, 89, a retired teacher and coach for the Pierce City School District, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pierce City High School gym. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Wentworth, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City. Don "Ted" Keebaugh, 89, of Pierce City, died December 26 at his daughter's home in Joplin. Mr. Keebaugh was born August 8, 1918, in Mitchell, Nebraska, the son of Clyde and Mary Derby Keebaugh. He was a member of Berwick Cumberland Presbyterian Church and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was an educator and coach in the Pierce City school system for over 35 years. He began his teaching career in Scotia, Nebraska, Bassett, Nebraska, and Hay Spring, Nebraska, before coming to Pierce City, retiring several years ago. The football field is named after him as he coached football and track at Pierce City. He also taught history at the high school.He was married to Margaret Keebaugh, and she preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Keebaugh of Joplin and Mary Howard of Frontenac, Kansas; one son, Clyde Keebaugh of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith Auffet; and one brother, Wayne. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, at Pierce City High School gymnasium. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery near Wentworth under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home of Pierce City. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 30, at the funeral home.
